I was born and bred in sunny Nice, France. I did my PhD at the Institut de Biologie Valrose, under the supervision of Dr. Stéphane Noselli. I investigated the establishement of the left-right axis in Drosophila. I then crossed the Channel to take up a post-doctoral position in Cambridge. I worked at the Gurdon Institute, in the laboratory of Prof. Andrea Brand, where I studied the nutritional regulation of neural stem cell behaviour in Drosophila. I then went back to France to start my own group in the Institut Pasteur.

Hello, I'm Vesna Mellon; “pasteurienne” for 37 years! Originally a research technician, I gradually moved from the bench to the computer by occupying different positions which have enriched me a lot over the years.
I joined this very friendly team 3 years ago as an administrative assistant.
It is with great pleasure that I help all these young researchers, for all the administrative aspects related to management, human resources, logistics, meetings... I am happy to advance science with my humble contribution .

I joined the lab in November 2019, after a number of very enriching positions. In particular, I worked in the Flu Center of the Institut Pasteur, before joining the Chrétien lab in which he investigated the behaviour of muscle stem cells during sepsis.

I am a PhD student coming from the delightful Italy. I completed my bachelor studies in Rome and I moved to Milan for two years of Master. During my research internship I joined Thomas Vaccari’s lab at the FIRC Institute of Molecular Oncology where I set up a Drosophila model for a rare neurodegenerative disorder called Kufs disease. Following my Master I wanted to pursue with this project and I won a one-year scholarship to stay in Vaccari’s lab at the University of Milan. At the end of this experience I remained fascinated by the endless potentialities of the little fruit fly and I decided to keep on working with it, joining Pauline Spéder’s lab for my PhD. Here my project consists on using Drosophila as a model for invasive brain tumour, derived from transformed neural stem cells.

Hello everyone! Originally from Nantes, I am currently in the second year of a master's degree at the University of Lorraine in Nancy where I am studying cognitive sciences. I like to travel to meet new people and learn about new cultures. I also like to cook and play sports. I am very happy to be part of the S2N2 team for 6 months for my end-of-study internship. My goal is to develop a model of Toxoplasma gondii infection in the Drosophila brain. This internship is a real opportunity for me to discover in more detail the Drosophila model applied to neuroscience. I am eager and very curious to start learning new techniques and mechanisms applied to this model.

Hello everyone! My name is Saline Jabre and I’m a freshly graduated PhD at Myology centre of Research in Marc Bitoun’s Team: Muscle Organization & Therapy of Dominant Centronuclear Myopathy. My PhD work aimed to understand the impact of mechanical stress on nuclear morphology and chromatin in skeletal muscle.
Now, I will be working on a collaborative project between the Spéder and Etienne-Manneville labs, where I will study Responses of brain tumors to mechanical stress. Our project aims to combine the power of two models, an in vitro culture of glioblastoma cells and in vivo Drosophila genetics, to understand the relationship between tumor cells and mechanical signals in the nervous system.

Hello, I am a French Master's student in Genetics from the Magistère Européen de Génétique of Université Paris Cité. I am particularly interested in the molecular and cellular aspects of neurobiology to better understand brain function. Here at Pasteur, I am joining the team of Pauline Spéder for 6 months to investigate how the glial niche controls neural stem cell communication in the Drosophila larval brain.
Previously, I had the opportunity to get lab experience abroad both in the US and in Spain thanks to two long-lasting internships in mouse neurogenetics. From now on, I am excited to broaden my knowledge and learn to master new skills while harnessing the powerful genetics of Drosophila.
Besides lab, I enjoy running, the outdoors, discovering new places and new people, and having fun just as spending time with my friends.

Hi! My name is Diego, and I am from Valencia (Spain). I just finished my studies in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences this year, and decided that was the perfect moment to move abroad and explore new areas of research, discover how the science works in other places and, of course, learn a lot of new techniques while I develop my skills in the lab. So, there we go, I decided to start an internship here, in the Pasteur Institute, that will take me 9 months. I am super motivated and feel enthusiastic for this opportunity. Here, I will study how the infections of some pathogens can affect the development of the brain and perturb the glia and the NSCs using the Drosophila larva.

Hello ! My name is Espérance Nku-Mokabo and I am currently a M2 student in cell signalling and neuroscience at Paris-Saclay University. I have joined Pauline Speder’s lab as an intern to work on the structural properties of neural stem cells’niche. Through this internship, I hope to gain knowledge on the developmental aspects of neuroscience and acquire skills in handling computational data.
Before doing this master, I have completed a BSc in biology at Sorbonne Université and I have also travelled to the U.K. to pursue a one-year MSc in clinical neuroscience. I feel tremendously grateful to pursue my education in Pasteur institute and be able to communicate with passionate scientifics from all over the world.
In my free time, I enjoy watching movies, going to art exhibitions and spending time with my friends and family. I also love reading all kind of books; my favourite book being Martin Eden by Jack London.

Hello all ! My name is Ghanim Fajish. I am coming from India. I have joined Dr. Pauline lab as a research assistant starting January . I was doing my PhD from Osaka University, Japan in Chromatin Biology centred on the Regulation of chromosomes in yeast meiosis. I am excited to join Pauline's team to study the regulation of chromatin in neural stem cells during environmental stress. I am extremely happy to be joining the Pasteur community. I am looking forward to be getting started here and staying connected with everyone.
